How the test works
You take the Class B theory test on a computer at TÜV or DEKRA. It consists of 30 questions:
- 20 basic-material questions (apply to all classes)
- 10 class-specific questions (Class B)
Some questions include images or short videos. You have plenty of time (around 30–45 minutes) – so speed isn't the problem, accuracy is.
Error points & the 5-point trap
Each question carries a weight of 2 to 5 error points, depending on how important it is for safe driving. To pass:
5-point questions are usually the safety-critical topics (e.g. right of way). These are exactly the ones you should master with confidence.
Cost & retake
| Item | Cost (guide value) |
|---|---|
| Exam fee TÜV/DEKRA | approx. €25 |
| Driving school presentation fee | depends on the school |
| Retake after failing | after at least 2 weeks, fees again |
Didn't pass? No drama – but every attempt costs money and time. That's why good preparation pays off twice.
10 tips to pass first time
- Use the official app / question catalogue – the test uses only the official catalogue.
- Learn daily in small chunks rather than everything at once.
- Mark your error questions and repeat them until they stick.
- Read questions carefully – many mistakes come from missing words like "not" or "only".
- Memorise the numbers (distances, blood-alcohol limits, fines, tread depth).
- Prioritise 5-point topics (right of way, hazard situations).
- Check all options in multiple-choice – often more than one is correct.
- Do exam simulations until you stay reliably below 10 points.
- Sleep well the night before – rested, you read more accurately.
- Stay calm – you have enough time, read every question twice.
